Courtney Walberg, RD, NASM-CPT, is the chief author of House Call, MD’s fitness column, House Call TRAINER.  Courtney currently works as a Registered Dietitian in the acute care setting of Olympia Medical Center, teaching interactive diabetes support group classes. Additionally, she works with Dr. Mitchell Spirt, a Board Certified Gastroenterologist, assessing and educating patients based on their individual nutritional needs.  Her program covers all realms of digestive diseases and disorders, athletic nutrition, healthy weight loss and much more. Courtney is also a Certified Personal Trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine, with a noteworthy passion for sports nutrition, fitness, wellness and “food as medicine”. She started her own private practice, Nutrition for Body and Mind (, which tailors meal plans, fitness, supplementation protocols, hydration needs, lifestyle modification, disease-specific needs and sports nutrition based on  the most cutting-edge research.  Courtney believes that this comprehensive approach, uniquely tailored to the individual’s needs, provides an ideal path to overall health.

Courtney graduated Cum Laude, with a Major in Nutritional Science and a Minor in Chemistry from the University of Arizona. She was involved in the UA Obesity Research Study and was a preceptor for UA courses including Nutrition, Food and You and Nutrition in Health and Disease. She was an active member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority and member and secretary of the UA Nutritional Science Club. Courtney successfully completed her Dietetic Internship at the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System. She is currently an active member of the American Dietetic Association, California Dietetic Association, SCAN (Sports, Cardiovascular and Wellness Nutritionist Dietetic Practice) group and Sports Dietetics-USA. Her preference for fast-paced environments has been the catalyst from which she has developed her strongest attributes: initiative, integrity, tenacity, enthusiasm, motivation and eagerness to face new challenges.

Courtney is a life-long athlete and exercise enthusiast, whose high energy level is often contagious. She coins running as her “vice.” She also enjoys power yoga, strength training, tennis and swimming. She embraces the Southern California lifestyle, loves the beach, shopping at the local farmers’ market, traveling and spending time with family and friends.
